Leadership Opportunities
The most engaging and active leadership roles are filling the role of a Chapter officer. This is an opportunity to develop hands on experience in communication, project planning & execution, team building, and time management. Elections occur once per year, typically in early spring. Scholarships and Awards
Scholarships and Awards range from $100 to $5000 and are available for both undergraduate members as well as members furthering their academic endeavors through post-graduate study. Applications are available February 1st of each year and are due to the Scholarship Committee by April 30th. For more information, please view the Scholarship page.

Chapter Highlights
Polar Express
Every year at Christmas time, the University of Akron Chapter volunteers for the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad’s Polar Express. This is an event where childen can ride the train in their pajamas. They are told the Polar Express story while they enjoy cookies and hot chocolate. The train makes its way to the “North Pole” where SAL members had volunteered to dress up as elves and gingerbread men. (more…)
The Polar Express
Sigma Alpha Lambda at University of Akron volunteers annually at The Polar Express. At The Polar Express, children arrive in their pajamas to board the train and listen to someone read The Polar Express story. Elves serve them cookies and hot chocolate while they ride. When they arrive at “The North Pole,” all the characters from the story act out their roles. This year, SAL members dressed up as elves and a gingerbread man. They acted their parts, excitedly smiling and waving to children who rode the train. (more…)
