Ronald McDonald House

SAL members at the University of Tennessee volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House by making a meal for the residents. Several members took time to go to the house and put together a meal of chicken tetrazzini and bake chocolate chip cookies. As they made the meal, they were  able to meet and talk with some of the residents and staff. This activity was very meaningful in that the volunteers had the opportunity to interact directly with the people  they were serving. Also, the chance to cook a meal from scratch offered a unique experience for the volunteers.

It was also a great way for members to see first hand what The Ronald McDonald House is and how it works. The Ronald McDonald House of Knoxville provides a “home away from home” for families of seriously ill children receiving treatment at nearby hospitals. The House provides a comfortable, supportive, temporary residence near the medical facility where family members can sleep, eat, relax and find support from other families in similar situations.
